You will first have a personal meeting with a female consultant and the plastic surgeon. During this meeting the surgeon will extensively examine the history of your complaints and he will take time to listen to your wishes. He will clearly inform you on the results you can expect from the surgical proceedings and what they exactly entail. During this first consultation the plastic surgeon will also examine your breasts. In doing this he will pay attention to the quality and quantity of the mammary breast tissue and the skin condition of the breast. At the same time he will examine the mammary glands on possible irregularities.
The operation will incorporate a general anaesthesia and will take one and half to three hours. Surgery is performed in hospital in order to secure your best care and safety. On average you will stay there for 1 or 2 days. Prior to surgery the surgeon will draw the surgical pattern on your breasts needed for the operation. After you have been anaesthetised an incision is made around the areola and further downwards. This is where the scar will be. Sometimes the areola is reduced in size to fit the new size of your breasts. The nipples are always moved upwards because the nipples of heavy/large breasts always point downwards. Very large breasts or extremely flabby breasts require a different incision. This method leaves a vertical scar from the areola downwards and a horizontal one in the fold under the breast. The scars will not be visible when wearing a bra or bikini. Any excess mammary gland tissue below the areola and towards the pectoral big muscle behind it is removed during the operation. A drain, which is a small tube, is placed in each breast to allow wound fluids to exit the breast. Two weeks after surgery the sutures are removed in our clinic.
