How do you recognize lipodema?
It is important that lipodema is diagnosed in the early stages. This reduces the risk of aggravation and avoids possible complications. Signs that may indicate lipodema: - Heavy, oppressive feeling in the legs; - Painfull (swollen) feet; - Cellulitis; - Bruises; - Clothing size of the upper and the lower body difference two to three sizes; - Difficulty walking (by abrasive skin) - Joints problems (especially knees); - Tenderness (pain on light touch only); - Weight problems without apparent cause.
Treatment
Both the upper and lower legs can be treated. The treatment of the upper legs takes about 2-3 hours. Those of the lower legs approximately 2 hours. Before treatment takes place photos are taken to compare the result with the situation before the treatment.
The treatment begins with the injection of a painkiller and a saline solution at the target site. The two liquids make the treatment painless and make sure the treatment will be with minimal blood loss. After your medical specialist will make a few small incisions in the skin. This keeps the treated area in the desired shape and reduces swelling. Depending on the recovery (6 to 12 months) the bandage should be renewed every week for 3 to 4 weeks. This pressure bandages should be worn 24 hours. While showering, the treated areas will be covered with plastic.
After 3-4 weeks you will receive measured stockings. These have to be worn during day time for about a year.
What are the risks and possible complications?
Let us first state that we will ensure that everything runs smoothly. Like any operation, there is a chance that a liposculpture treatment gives complications. The chance is very small but there may be local infection and numbness.
